You can always use Crystal. You just need to point it at the database. it may not be as integrated with RE8 as it is with RE7 but you can always write reports directly against the database.

Blackbaud has drunk the Microsoft Kool-Aid. All their development from now on will be on Microsoft products. That means SSRS instead of Crystal.

I was just poking around blackbaud's site looking through the available sessions (pardon me if I missed it), I didn't see a SINGLE session that made any mention of Raisers Edge 8, what it's going to look like, things that DBA types might want to be aware of is coming, nothing... I even searched their website, and the last thing I can find is from November 2007...

But I've also seen that RE 7.91 is the last major release for RE7, so..............

Could someone that's attending point out that previews and information about RE8 would be greatly appreciated, especially for those of us that are just too far away to even think about attending? I'm guessing that something will be floating around after conference, but even a preview like Enterprise CRM would be nice out on the BB Labs page...

Thank you from the arctic north (it's snowing as I write this)

I, too, am VERY interested to hear what is being said at the conference in regards to RE8. Please, please pass info along to those of us not fortunate enough to attend! Thanks

I attended all the sessions relating to RE 7 futures, RE8 and the Infinity platform and spent some time at the usability testing stations for RE8 and attended the open forum session on the infinity platform led by Sean Sullivan, CTO. Also, the BB leaders of Internet Solutions and RE and its various modules spoke at our Blackbus User Group and filled us in on how things would roll out.

There is a lot to consider in planning for RE 8. However, RE 7 will be supported for at least 5 years after the release of ver 8.

I must say I am very excited by the changes coming with RE8, despite the pain of having to redo existing custom reports and queries. I find it far more intuitive in design and like the shift to a totally open source API. I can see that some organizations will struggle with the fact that all gen 8 products, which will share one database, will be hosted by Blackbaud, not on local systems, but I'm all for that setup.

Next week, I plan on going through my notes and documenting all of this "information overload" for those in my org who need to know. I would be happy to share these notes on this forum. How about some of the others who were there adding their notes?

Thanks, Harriet. I would really like to see your notes. Due to an extreme staff shortage, I had to cancel my conference trip at the last minute. I was pretty devastated, but the mission comes first - we all know that. Please share everyone. We will all surely appreciate it.

Harriet - Thanks for posting. I'm looking forward to hearing more of the "nitty gritty" once you get your notes done!! Any timeline given for release date? Are they thinking 2010, 2011??
