RE8 13 Apr 2012 14:19 #40085

I am going to miss speculating about RE8.

My office is getting tired of hearing me kvetch about the fact that RE8 was shelved after so many promises made. I am not sure this is something I am going to easily get over.

We need to get the ideas page back up and running and push for real changes to happen in RE7. There is so much they need to fix but we were all patiently waiting for RE8.

Even the description of the Raiser's Edge 8 forum needs to change. "no release date yet" should change to "indefinitely shelved by Blackbaud Fall 2011"

I'm with you. I was trying to be patient as well, but if 8 is shelved, we need to get a move on with the evolution of the system. Between waiting for 8, BBNC and Sphere issues and dashed hopes, and now who knows what with Convio, a company that I loved is becoming the "old ball and chain" that I resent.

How sad... But I know what you mean.

I've heard whatever it is they're planning on next will require integrated PE/RE/FE before you can upgrade to the new version. Has anyone else heard this? Our RE/PE integration failed miserably and we're not going there again, RE/FE are not integrated and we don't want them to be. We're going for a business intelligence solution in order to keep systems separate so we can maximize end-user satisfaction. Would love to hear how others are thinking.

Where did you hear this?

My understanding is that the original plan or RE 8 was to put it on the infinity platform with all of the other "Edge" products and essentially bundle them. However, just like now you get all of RE7 with all of the modules but you pay to unlock only certain things you want to use - with 8.0 you would get FE, PE, EE, etc. in the software you install but you would only unlock what you planned to use (for a price).

I heard this was actually the downfall of RE8. To get a basic fundraising package you would need extensive space to install all of these products, 90% of which you would never unlock and use. The burdon on a small non-profits hardware made it impossible. This is only rumor but it sounds reasonable. Would love to be a fly on the wall at BB.
