Your CFO should have ZERO control over what you add into RE - only what you transmit from RE to finance.

First, no organization should be transmitting MG Pledges to finance as actual pledges since the org has not committed the money - the form you get simply states that the donor has applied - no guarantee the company will pay - therefore it cannot be considered a Pledge in the financial sense. In this way your CFO is right.

Where your CFO is wrong is in that you should not be entering th

  • Melissa Siobhan created a new topic Prospect Managers in the forums.
Apologies in advance for the long message and repeats on a few other boards. I have a complicated question for anyone with experience with Raiser’s Edge. We are having some difficulty with managing prospect manager (solicitor) assignments in RE.

Currently it is our policy to:
    • Assign only one person in a couple if the couple have separate records. So the spouse does not get an actual assignment. Nor do they get proposals on the prospect tab.
    • Assign the individual if they give through a

  • Melissa Siobhan replied to the topic Re: Soft Credit to other Org records in the forums.
Do you SC more then one corp for the entire amount? I do not allow more than one constituent to be soft credited for the full amount (if more than one constituent is SCd the total of the SCs should not total more than the gift). Does this really happen often? I can't say I have ever had to SC more than one ORG for a gift ever - I get asked all the time to do it for more than one individual at the full amount and have to say no all the time.

How about doing gift query with constituent key indicator = organization and change the SC options to SC to recipient but add that SC amount > 0. That should work.

  • Melissa Siobhan created a new topic "contains" in the forums.
Novice Crystal user here - I know enough to be dangerous but do not know Crystal Syntax (or any programming language to be honest).

I am looking to write a formula that says If field A contains the word "Unrestricted" then use the word Unrestricted. What operator in Crystal would allow me to do this?

  • Melissa Siobhan replied to the topic Re: Anonymous Record in the forums.
If this is a truly large gift and someone with whom to treat with kid gloves I would go through this carefully but honestly most of the time simply marking the record AND gift as anonymous should do what it needs to do.

Otherwise, you could also create a separate record for this record but it must have the name of the donor somewhere and should not just be "folklore" where when people leave it is unknown who this donor is. You may want to put it in a note with special note type with notepad s

  • Melissa Siobhan replied to the topic Re: Appeals in the forums.
I believe I am in the minority but I keep my appeals open for a long time until I do not expect more replies to come in (18-24 months) and will re-open an appeal to add a gift if one comes in later.

I have seen where others create an "old appeal" appeal type of sorts as a catch all for all gifts entered from appeals that have already been inactivated.

I can say that either approach is ok but what I do not recommend is choosing an altogether different appeal that was sent more recently and

  • Melissa Siobhan replied to the topic Re: SQL access to static queries in the forums.
Static queries do create tables in the RE backend. FYI: For this reason I have always limited when I use static queries and how long I keep them. They will increase your datbase size (sometimes dramatically). I did a project once with dozens and dozens of static queries and the IT department came to me within a day asking why the database was so much larger all of a sudden. This is not so bad if you have adequate space but they did not anticipate that much growth that quickly.

  • Melissa Siobhan replied to the topic Re: Moving A Gift in the forums.
Julie - your suggestion only works if you want to move ALL of the gifts from one record to another. not if you only want to move ONE of many which was the original question.

Jeff - I am not sure what you mean by hairy and not hairy gifts. I think it is just that one gift (out of many) is supposed to be on another record.

Unfortunately what you suspect is true. No, they can not be moved.
