Just wanted to see how people have tackled their duplicates on RE. We have over 10,000 duplicates on RE and I am trying to figure out what the best approach is to get rid of them. We have access to both API and VBA side of RE and have an in-house developer. I don't like the idea of using the merge utility in RE as it would take forever to merge that many records.
Mark, you are right that using the RE merge utility will take a long time as you have to do it one by one. However if you use our global merge utility - The Mergician - then this is very straight forward.
The tool globally merges duplicates based on either the results of the duplicate constituent report or based on email (something that is not possible in RE7.91 and earlier).
Not only that there is also the functionality to remove duplicate data once the constituents have been merged. It will optionally remove duplicate constituent codes, addresses, appeals, relationships, actions, gifts and attributes that have been created due to the merge of the two records.
Thanks for this. Would it be possible to only pay for usage of the product for lets say 1 month rather than buy this outright etc... We envisage only using such a feature in a one time clean up as solutions will be put in place to mitigate duplicates from being created on RE.
Unfortunately we do not sell the application as a service but as a product. I certainly hope that you are able to keep your database duplicate free but with the best will (and technology) duplicates have a habit of reappearing!

I agree they will always reappear but with the measures we are going to putting in place they will never get to this herendous volume again. What we dont have is a quick way of sorting out the ones we currently have.
Its a shame you could not provide us a short term solution.
