Just had something weird happen. Mary Jones (the constituent) had Paul Jones listed as her spouse in RE. Mary now has a new spouse John Brown. So I changed the spouse name from Paul Jones to John Brown and left Mary's last name as Jones since she did not change her name.

However when I entered her gift through batch, her name popped up as Mary Brown. When I opened up her const. record, the Jones surname had diappeared automatically from her record and she was now listed as Mary Brown. I never changed Mary's name - only the spouse name.

Every time I put John Brown's name in spouse, it would change Mary's surname to Brown also.

The only way I could get Mary's surname to stay as Jones was to delete the spouse record entirely and re-enter a new spouse John Brown.

Can someone explain to me how I can avoid this automatic change from happening again. Or, is there no choice but to delete any spouse record and add a new spouse every time the spouse changes??

Oooooo, oooooo, I know!!! Go to Config/Business Rules. About 1/2 way down under Constitutent Options, General you'll see the first line state: *Automatically update Spouse having same Last name*, uncheck that box, then exit and signout. When you go back into RE, you should be all set!!
