birthday and anniversary alerts

hey guys,
my boss just found out it was a trustee's birthday from the trustee, and she'd like to avoid that by getting alerts the day before of significant birthdays and wedding annviersaries. i'm a bit new to RE, and i'm trying to figure out where to start. is there anything (with the exception of crystal reports, which i'm just beginning to learn) that will help me do this?

Action Reminders.

Create a new Action.

You'll want the date of action to be date on which the person is to take action, such as Call the Trustee to Wish them a Happy Birthday.

On the right-hand side of the action record click the Notify button.

Your boss must have an RE account to be listed here AND her email address must be listed in her RE user acct for the Outlook piece of this to work...and you must use Outlook for email/calendar)

Choose her name (and yours if you want to be reminded as well). when doing this you have the option at the bottom of choosing an Action Reminder (which is INSIDE raiser's edge), an outlook reminder (which sends her a meeting request to put an appointment in her outlook calendar) or Both.

Add 1 Day in the Set Reminder For area.

If you've chosen Outlook reminder, when you save and close, it will give you a security pop-up box saying that a program is trying to access your email system. Click the OK buttons to allow this to happen.

If you have selected "Raiser's Edge reminders" as one of your options, it will show up on the Action Reminders section of her RE homepage until she clicks the Complete checkbox signifying that she's made the phone call.

I hope these instructions are clear enough. If not, please let us know.

Good luck.

this seems like it's along the lines of what i was thinking, but i was wondering if there's anyway to automate it, to do so for every available trustee birthday automatically?

Not really - you an globally add an action to a query group but it would have to be the exact same action date (doubt all of your trustees were born on the same day.) You can export a spreadsheet of all of the trustee IDs and Birthdates and create and import new actions.

Also remember that actions are not repeating. You can probably do an action track and have it create a new action 1 year after the first and maybe do it 10 times (for 10 years) or so but there is no repeat forever option on actions.
