Does anyone know of a way to do this?

When our data was converted into RE they brilliantly (NOT) created constituent records for EVERY contact on an organization. And we have LOTS of organization records. So now we have all these unnecessary constituent records that really only needed to be relationships on the organization record.

I can identify these "unneeded" records in a query (using various criteria) but when I delete the record the relationship disappears off the org record.

Does anyone know a way to delete the record but leave the relationship on the org record? Is this something that someone out there could program (we don't have API/VBA....)

You'll have to check with blackbaud or David Z to see if a plugin exists to break the links between these constituent records before you delete them. You can do this individually but I do not belive you can do it globally.

This isn't exactly automated, but you could export those relationships and then re-import them into the organization records as unlinked relationships (aka just text) and then use your query to globally delete the full records.

Blackbaud has responded that there is no direct way or utility to do this and suggested an export and reimport (as you suggested David). They also mentioned that when you reimport the address will not be linked, and their suggestion was to do this MANUALLY!!! I don't think so .... Not on 11,548 records!!

Can anyone advise how to import the relationships and have the address linked to the organization address (any tips you can provide for this would be helpful as I'm not that experienced an importer, especially when it comes to addresses). I would also need all the business phones as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a way to import a true in to the
linked address and import the import ID of the address to link to?



I may be wrong, but I believe I saw those as available fields.

Duh - wake up Gina! I actually think I'm asking for something I don't need.

Because I'm going to reimport the information onto the organization record as a relationship only, then I don't think I need to worry about the org address because it will automatically populate onto the new relationship record.

I'll do some testing to see what happens but I actually think it's a non-issue?

I'm going to piggyback on this because, strangely, I'm having the exact same issue today. When they did the conversion, all of the business addresses for these contacts were brought in as home addresses. They have the relationship to the business as an employee, so they also have this address as a business address. So, does anyone know if I can query for constituents whose home address is equal to their work address? I then want to try to find a way to 1. Make this person a contact for the company/mark the company as the primary business information and 2. mark them as inactive constituents until we receive their actual home address (or not). I think they'll still receive mail as a business contact, even if they're marked as an inactive constituent...I know this is a messy work around, but I don't see re-importing as an option.

RE will not let you compare two fields. You can do this part in SQL, however.

Here's what I ended up doing that wasn't too bad.

- Identified these records in a query (if your records were all created on the same date that might be an easy way to find them)
- Created an import file with all their basic information, including the import ID of their primary business
- Imported the information back in as an individual relationship on the org records (so now the org records have two relationships for the same person)
- Then deleted the records in the query

This leaves the individual only as a relationship on the org record and deletes the unneeded record that was created for them.

I wouldn't want to leave all those unneeded records out there, mark as Inactive, etc. If you don't need them, I'd suggest getting rid of them.
