I am looking for a way to handle records of Organizations that get bought out. Should I start a new record and relate the old record? Should I just rename it? Our accounting person wants to keep the gift record payee under the original name. Thanks for any advice

We create a new record, and soft credit that record for the orginal orgs gifts. The old record is linked, then inactivated. Notes on each record explaining the situation and the soft credits.

Before you soft credit all the gifts you need to ask the new org if
they want the historical gifts to continue to be recognized with the
old name. It happened a lot at my previous gig.
