making the relationship (spouses) of deceased as a new constituents

Hi Everyone,

We are trying to create those soft relationship (non-constituent ) of the deceased spouses as constituents. The way we are trying to go about this is to export them and import back into RE as a constituents, but we also want to have the gifts given by the deceased be soft credited to them--similar to when you are making it constituent individually in the relationship tab. Anyway, I am wondering if this is even possible--soft credit as well?

I would like to hear from everyone's approach.

Thanks,

RE will do this for you automatically. You need to configure your business rules for marking constituents deceased.

In the cases where you have records already marked deceased and want to soft credit the spouse, it is possible to export the gift import id, the gift amount, and the spouse id and then import them as a soft credit. It will except out anything that already has a soft credit.

Drew

How do you import them as a soft credit? Do you change the gift type?

A soft credit is not a separate gift, it's a property of an existing gift. You use the "Soft Credit" import and use the original gift import ID to link the soft credit to the original gift.

Import back soft credit

DrewAllen:

That makes more sense, and I will try that.
