Micah - I feel your pain - progress ain't always so grand are it? But
then, we could still be riding around in horse-drawn bugies - hmmm -
wait, that's not a bad idea; wouldn't be dependent on foreign oil fer
sure

When I started using RE, we were running the DOS version on a rockin'
486 running NetWare 3.11 that sat right next to my desk.
In fact, we did this up until we had to upgrade because of the Y2K
issue.
What's my point? Oh yeah, it's this: I think I rebooted that server
about three times in the six years we used it, and had exactly one
problem with it that was quickly solved by a Novell expert type on
campus.
And when we finally moved to RE7 and a Win2K environment, I was poking
around the server's hard drive and found a copy of Netscape 0.9 that our
IT guy had installed for me when it came out. And it still worked,
mostly.
OK sorry for the tangent.
If you've been in IT long enough, you can dream back to the old days ...
to the 'ole legend of the Novel box found in a closet that was drywalled
'n spackled over, forgotten because it just ran and ran - it file
shared, it print served and did so happily ...
-Then you're jarred awake to today: AD runs the show in Metropolis (with
its two deputies, Exchange and 'it boy', SharePoint ).
Sure, there's the Lotus Notes/Fats Dominio ghetto over in that one
corner of town, but you drive by Novel's grave site every time you go
visit.
Well, it could be worse: They could control the desktop too (it wouldn't
be deadpan if I put a smilie here, now would it).
