Lost whole DB

Our server crashed on Friday (badly), and since then we have a new operating system on the server. After talking with Blakbaud over the phone I was told that the licenses and users are stored in the 6 database files. I re-installed RE today and updated it to 7.70 using CD. I migrated the DB files using the Management Console to our brand new SATA raid setup on the server. I first tried logging in with my loggin but it wouldn't let me in. Then I authenticated with Supervisor and I think the default password for Supervisor. It then said something about needing to update (either the software or the DB). I assumed this was ok, since there might be some update available via internet. A fast progress bar went across the screen. Then I looked around in RE and nothing was there.

I then looked at the files that I had migrated and they are all smaller in kb than when they were on the backup hard drive I migrated them from.

As of right now I lost everything. The last time the office backed up was in 2005. I am on my second month here... HELP!

I have not touched anything or closed RE since I logged in. Is there anything I can do? It seems the only DB files that matter have already been modified as of today.

I presume that you've got two copies of the files. One is on the old hard disk in the server, and one in the new SATA raid. Is that right?

I can explain the update. It does this if you change something about the database, like the location. The update was quick because in fact nothing needed to be updated.

The best thing to do is call Blackbaud. After all you pay them to support you. However if you want to try something, if I were you I would copy the files from the old hard drive to somewhere on the SATA drives and then try attaching your database to that new copy.

And of course once it's all settled down you'll get a proper backup system in place won't you :-)
