Hi everyone, I'll apologize ahead of time for the length
In Oct 2007, I did a new installation of RE7.82 & then applied patch 5 on my test server. Then in Nov, I tried to apply patch 7 & received the following error: “Permission denied C:\DOCUME~1\Admin1\LOCALS~1\Temp\pft25~tmp\BBPatch.exe”. I contacted Blackbaud & the response was to run the patch update but during the process copy bbpatch.exe & patchpackage.msi to the desktop & run the bbpatch.exe from the desktop. The thinking was that the login acc’t I was using didn’t have the correct permissions. Unfortunately I haven’t had a chance to get back to this until now.
In Dec, I did download RE7.83 & patch 2. So I thought that I’d go ahead & install RE7.83 but the error I got was: “The Raiser’s Edge Installer Information Error 1310.Error writing to file: F:\Blackbaud\The Raiser’s Edge7\Deploy\0x0409.ini. Verify that you have access to that directory.” When I checked the contents of the deploy folder, everything was gone.
Then I tried re-running RE7.82 patch 5 to see if that fixed anything. Re-running the patch puts the files back into the deploy folder but I get the error: “Permission denied F:\Blackbaud\The Raiser’s Edge 7\Deploy\Patch” & the patch won’t finish.
I’ve checked the permissions on the deploy folder & it’s set for everyone to read & execute, list folder contents & read.
Luckily, each time I try to either re-run 7.82 patch 5 or run 7.83, the database rolls back so that I am able to access 7.82 patch 5 within my test environment.
So I guess my questions are: Has anyone else had these error messages before & what did you do to fix them? Is my deploy folder corrupted & can’t be used anymore? What’s causing these errors – I didn’t have any trouble with the original installation? Is my only recourse to uninstall/reinstall RE on my test server? Would someone be willing to share the list of files/folders that exist within your deploy folder so that I can see if I’m missing anything?
I really want to figure out what’s going on here so that if I have the same errors in my production db, I’ll at least know how to fix them.
Thanks for everyone for reading this & for any help you can give me, Pat

Are you/can you make yourself an administrator on the test machine? This would eliminate the permissions question (since administrators have no restrictions).
Have you tried re-downloading the upgrade? I had some wierd errors when I was installing vista on a test machine at home, and it turned out to be a bad download (even tho my software was able to open the .iso AND burn it, it was still corrupted).
I've attached a screen shot of my deploy folder.
Good luck!
Doug

Thanks to those that did read this. Doug - thanks for the screen shot, I'll compare it to what I have. Luckily, I did get the upgrade to complete - but I still have some things to investigate as to why the process didn't work like it was supposed to. Many thanks!
Pat
