Apologies if this has been adressed anywhere else but I was just wondering if anyone else has upgraded to 7.82 and has tested the restore from backup facility in the Blackbaud Management Console? I ma having some problems with this and reattaching the database.

We had to upgrade from 7.5 to 7.82 quite suddenly when our database crashed and Blackbaud retrieved some corrupted data for us (another story that has a happy ending, but let's not go there!). It meant that we didn't have much time to go through the details of the upgrade information so I'm not sure if this is listed as an issue.

I wanted to test the restore from backup to make sure that the backups were working but when I tried this I got an error message that said that the tail for the log of the database had not backed up. So I went to the Knowledgebase to see if this was a common error and the solution was to detach and then reattach the database. So I detahced the database but when I tried to reattach there was another error message that said that there was already an instance of the database. It was easy to fix in the end by changing the path of the backup file in the background (with a lot of help from Blackbaud Support).

I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has encountered this problem and if you have been able to restore from backup in 7.82. We have patch 5 installed and no test environment yet (although I do now have a standalone pc ready and waiting for RE).

Have you managed to restore your backup since this error message? I would be interested to hear if anyone else has had any problems too

We didn't manage to get the restore function to work, and I haven't dared try it since (I'll wait until my test machine is up and running). We used the attach database function instead.
However, when the data was returned to us by Blackbaud and we were trying to set up the database again, I couldn't get the attach function to work and we had to use the restore from backup then. This makes me think that it must work but I'm not sure exactly when or how and I don 't want to try it again on the live version until I know what's going on.
If anyone else has had trouble, or no trouble, with the restore it would be good to know.

I have 7.82 on my test system and have had no problem restoring the database from my live 7.81 version, via the BBMC to the test system. (I do a test restore monthly)
