Is it just me, but looking at the 7.82 release readme, if you read where bugs were reported, version 7.81 seemed to have broken more things than it fixed. 7.82 is not currently available on the UK site and we're in no hurry but I'd be interested to hear if people had the same concerns as me that the beta testing is not being carried out as thorougly as you'd might expect, and some other incentives may be required from Blackbaud to get more users on the program.
“…version 7.81 seemed to have broken more things than it fixed.” This syndrome, which seemed to intensify after the release we’re on (7.71.936.0035 - and staying on until Infinity [pun intended]) has become increasingly concerning to me because we have many ‘customizations’ that will have to be thoroughly tested when we update to ANY release. If the standard RE functionality can’t be kept intact, what chance do customizations have? Not an encouraging scenario to consider & one that I’ve made poignantly clear to the reps at BB with whom I deal.

I understand your pain but in actual fact as long as you know which areas of the program have changed and as long as you know your customizations well enough then they tend not to break. From what I can see there have been a couple of serious customization breaking areas:
1. When relationships became top level objects (eons ago) 2. When action notes became notepads 3. Most of the UK Gift Aid functionality changed successively each version from 7.71 to 7.82 (including 7.82 from what I understand).
I may have missed some areas but these are the only ones that I can think of
Not so – didn’t start until 7.70 J, but irrespective of which release we started on, the decision whether or not to upgrade takes into account a multitude of factors – and for us, the ‘benefits’ in the subsequent releases after ours were FAR outweighed by the hassles the ‘broken’ (standard) functionality would have caused here, magnified by the highly customized interfaces that exist here. Bottom line, if there had been any compelling reason to adopt any of the releases since ours, I would have – failing that, we’ll toodle along as is until the jump to the ‘new’ .NET architecture is stabilized (around patch 185 I’d guess J) enough to warrant the effort it will take to move to it.

That happens with every BB patch. If you use that as a reason not to upgrade, you'd still be on RE 6 :P

So I expect a few glitches with each upgrade, but it seems to me that they are always with Gift Aid, even with the latest release which had new Gift Aid features.
My problems with the 7.81 upgrade are with the import of Gift Aid fields, so if you haven't upgraded to 7.81 yet, and you're in the UK, and you import GA information (e.g. eligiblity rule, tax claim number) then watch out.
Our workaround was to resurrect an old attribute we used to indicate whether a gift was eligible or not.
Has anybody experienced problems with duplicate search
Has anybody experienced problems with duplicate search and duplicate rules after latest 7.81 patch prior to 7.82 or in 7.82?
It seems RE is pulling random records from the database in duplicate search after 7.81.1334.22

This has been around for quite a while. I noticed it as far back as 7.61, I think. Anyway, when I complained to Blackbaud customer support, they said it was working as programmed!! I just unchecked the "check alias" box and got rid of all the total garbage that was coming out. Too bad they can't come up with a way to check aliases for duplicates that is meaningful.

Working with Blackbaud on this, though all they keep telling me to do is install patches, but I lost all the function in my gift Custom Views when I upgraded, and also, all saved queries now run at 1/8th speed. New queries run fine, but any complicated saved queries now take forever.

I have a simple question that I would like to pose without any judgement on responders as to whether it was a sound decision or not ...... Has anyone actually upgraded to v7.82?
