So Blackbaud came back to me with their solution for a problem with a friendly organization I work with...
This is Hannah from Blackbaud Product Support. This fix is still
expected to be released in 7.82. I will be in touch with you if
anything should change.
okay well thats not to bad, right? except that we don't know when 7.82 is coming out, and the bug is that we can't create an appeal without crashing the whole system, and we can't import memberships....
okay this might not be a question but more of a major need to blow off some steam
I heard today that 7.82 has an expected summer release date. I also heard that this release is kinda special in that it has a customer focus or something like that and is not fully a technical update. I'm hoping that this is the kind of release that will fix those annoying little things like maximizing windows, collapsing those groups in import, keystroke shortcuts, etc. that we so passionately made a case for at the conference in the fall. maybe the Usability team got their hands on their own release? I'm just guessing from what I heard but maybe... just maybe...
Peter,
Are you sure you can't create an appeal or import memberships? I would think that this would be a major problem and more organizations would be reporting this if it is a problem for everyone.

Honestly they can't create an appeal and when they attempt an upgrade they can no longer import. Its been duplicated at blackbaud but there are no other reports of this out there, and no idea as to how they got in this mess to begin with.
I received a call from Sean Seabrook, asking if I would join the 7.82 beta testing. (I assume they called because I had been on the RE7.81 and BBNC 5 beta teams.) The testing starts approx. June 26th. with the release planned for mid August. He noted there are changes to events and to the naming of fields in Query criteria - standardizing for the various query types. They are offering "Beta Bucks" in return for your services - sound like you could earn $200-$300 in beta bucks, which is certainly not my incentive for doing this.

I so wish I worked somewhere that was prepared to do a beta testing. I couldn't subject my previous staff to it and it is even more evident here that I can't subject us to beta testing. I wish I could do it without requiring all of my staff to participate.

There is a way to be part of the beta team without going directly to production. I spoke to Sean and received agreement to load the beta version only to my test environment. Then, only after 2-3 weeks of intense testing, when I felt the product was safe to put into production, I would load it for our live environment. Please note that they will not allow everyone to do this - it is arranged on a case by case basis, based somewhat on past participation in beta testing, and you have to commit to completing all of the tasks, just as if you were in a live environment.
Sean sent the link to the beta testing site and I said I would pass it along via the forum:
I have been using 7.82 (beta) and BBNC 5 in a live environment. I'm asked not to go into great detail about this, but I can say that I have been pleased. We are really new to BBNC (July implementation) so some of my whoohoo! is about the improvements over NetSolutions. I can say that the beta team was very responsive to any issues and that we were able to use the product in our live environment very well.

Anyone know if the schedule is likely to be the same for the UK version? I know they're usually pretty close, and unlike 7.81 there's not a great deal of UK-specific extra functionality in this release.

I am happy to report that I just loaded patch 5 for 7.82 (test environment only), and it has resolved the problem of files not previewing when part of a conditional mail merge. (ie when running the Mail-Receipts).
I have more testing to do of the processes that are critical to us, but will likely be upgrading to 7.82 soon.
