I've put in a request to our IT folks to install the patch on our test server and will spend some time today reviewing teh release notes and readme file.

I just received a new notebook with a large enough hard drive and sufficient RAM to allow me to set it up as a test RE environment. (I ordered the install CD from BB so that I could grab the BBMC - so that I could attach to a backup of my real database and I want to also be able to test database restore on the notebook.) They are sending the CD with 7.81 install loaded. I hope to have it notebook ready for testing by next week.
Apparently, the 7.81 install includes a "sample" version of SQL, so that you can now load databases up to 4 Gb in size for a standalone version. (Used to be only 2 Gb.)

That would be SQL 2005 Express Edition. This replaces the MSDE in SQL 2005 and does support up to 4GB. There is a note on Microsoft's website that Vista will not support any version of SQL 2000.

It is better to live your destiny imperfectly than to live an imitation of somebody else's life with perfection.
Just make sure that you do a successful login to your databases as a local admin after all is said and done. If not, there's merry hell to play. Server update went well without problems, every deploy failed (10 machines) owing to re-deploy installation & upgrade as admin, first login as user level accounts (PowerUser).
Release notes make for interesting reading - cannot for the life of me understand why to link a fund to a constituent via the relationships tab.
Relationships between funds and constituents are good things, EXCEPT for the fact they don't provide a way to import them (unless that's been fixed in this version, I'm not upgrading any time soon).
Fund Contacts, Original Donors, Scholarship Recipients, Signature Authorities... There's lotsa reasons for the relationship...

Fair enough - thinking about it I can see some benefits to this... I was more thinking of appeals (Probably because I'm abusing the appeals records to be the 'proposals that you have when you don't have the prospect module!')

Still can't link actions to appeals though.

Rob - Linking funds to a constituent is HUGE if you're a community foundation or if your organization sets up endowments for people. We've been asking for this for YEARS, too! Glad to see they're finally doing it (it's been a function in RE enterprise all along). Anyway, not everything is utilized by everyone, but this is one I'm looking forward to implementing. We're not upgrading till March, though. Waiting for them to fix all the "bugs"!

This is absolutely great news to me. We have a number of funds that have been created by constituents and they want updates each year on balance, use, etc. I have been doing this in Relationships with non-constituent relationships so it was "relatively" easy to keep the correct people updated plus when solicitors looked at profiles and the const. record they would see the information.

Just gone live and have had similar problems, after the insatallation wizard completes the user is presented with their desktop when really they should be forced to restart. Naturally they haven't fully read my instuctions to do so and have been merrily clicking on their shortcuts, which restarts the installation programme again -

Same thing happened to us. It showed everyone as having upgraded to 7.81.1334.0 for a couple of days. Our server guy was on the phone with Blackbaud for a long time but finally got it sorted out so that we are all up to 7.81.1334.9.
