Spliting multiple tributes for one gift

I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me out with this tribute report. We have a recognition wall for tributes that begin at $1,000 total honor/memorial gifts. We have lots of tribute gifts that have multiple tributes for one gift - all on the same gift record. I realize that Raiser's Edge will use the total amount for each tribute, so I was trying to figure out a work around to find the cumulative totals for each tribute. The only way I could come up with was to export the gifts with the tributes to Excel and then divide the amounts. The tribute names and amounts were scattered across 8 columns - so I moved them all into one column so I could get a Pivot Report to work. I'm not an expert on this though and was hoping there was an easier way - maybe using the Pivot Report directly from a query through Reports. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

When I get a check that is designated for more than one tribute I do the math before entering the check and only enter the designated amount on each tribute -- as if the donor had written more than one check. I make a notation on each gift in Gift Notes that it is part of the check and why. IE. a $150 gift made in memory of John, Vik and Joe, I would enter a $50 gift for each tribute and link the gift to that tribute. On the donor records it would appear as three gifts. This system would allow an accurate count for each tribute for your tribute wall.

Let's try that again....I agree that would be better. But as the gifts are already entered I don't think they want to go back and change them all. So, I still need a reporting method for now. I'll see if we could implement your suggestion from now on.

This is a great solution and has worked for me in the past. In the reference field, you can even put 1/3, 2/3, 3/3 or some other way to remind yourself (or, as my old boss used to say, remind my successor should I be hit by a bus) that it was all one check. This also allows you to run different letters for each if need be.
