Attention all membership organizations — museums, zoo’s, aquariums, symphonies — are you using The Raiser’s Edge membership module to its fullest capacity? This session will cover the many facets of membership in The Raiser’s Edge including membership entry, renewals, on-line memberships, reporting, scanning, and those tricky gift memberships. I attended this session because it's been several years since I actively worked with the Membership module, and we have just set up our primary giving circle as a membership. I was hoping for some quick refresher ideas. Unfortunately, I was somewhat underwhelmed.

The main thing I got from the session is the difference between Current and History fieldss in membership information. When viewing the Membership tab of a Membership record, you are viewing it current information. The Membership History tab shows all of the History for that membership, such as join date, renewals, upgrades, downgrades, etc.

Some Knowledgebase solutions off interest to membership organizations:
BB 136964 deals with How the Membership Statistics Category report processes
BB1329 How to use bar code scanning in Batch
BB261422 How to automatically renew a membership linked to a pledge or recurring gift
BB165734 Differences between Membership Summary and Active Membership List dashboards.

If you read the bio for Ryan Montgomery, the presenter, you'll discover that he is the one who trains all new customer service reps for RE.

Interesting...I wonder if the fact that this was a "beginner" course had anything to do with your dis-satisfaction? Or it just may explain alot of our CS woes?

I think it explains some of our CS woes. My expectations were not very high because it was a beginner-level session. However, I found it discouraging that too many questions were answered with "It depends." No further discussion followed. He also used two Dashboard membership reports as examples, but did not know how to print them.

On a more positive note, I did get clarification of the Current and History fields for querying, which had always been somewhat of a mystery to me.
