Foundation-related records

I am a grant writer in my organization and I find it very difficult to understand the terminology of Raisers Edge in terms of logging in foundation information, communications, links to letters and proposals and reports. Is there anyone who is in my situation who knows Raisers Edge well who could give me a hand from time to time. I had a tutor for 4 hours but since I was on the keyboard and not writing things down, I haven't a clue about what I did. Even so, nothing was intuitive. I'm someone who has mastered Word, who customizes Styles and jimmies with formatting..., so I'm not totally inept, but using Raisers Edge makes me feel totally inept. Any "big brother/sister" out there? I do not have the additional foundation-related module; I need to learn how to do this with the core RE version.

I would say you can think of this entire group as your big brothers and sisters. That is what we are here for. There are no stupid questions here so... ask away.

Barrie,
Do you have the Search module, meaning when you look at the tabs on a Constituent record, do you see one called Prospect? If os, much of what you're looking for can be found there, for example the Proposal record that would let you link your Word doc and then also link Action records to the proposal. If not, you'll have to manipulate Action records (for mailings, etc.) and the Media to create a link to your porosal doc. You can also make handy use of the Action Notepads and Notepads themelves for recording your notes. Just be sure NOT to put anything in your notes that you wouldn't want read aloud in open court, like "I can't believe that's all we got from her! Did you see that jelewry she was sporting?" Just kidding, but be mindful of what you enter.
Your job is much easier with the Search module, but certainly still doable in RE without it.
Keep us posted!

Hi Barrie,

You can give me a call and I'll try to help you set something up using Actions. I did this for a client a couple of years ago and it worked pretty well for them. I'll be out of the offive Friday through Tuesday of enxt week, but tomorrow or later next week would work for me.

Jo
