I am trying to find the net worth of Allan Markin, chairman of Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL) and am having difficulty due to the fact that that kind of information is not readily available for Canadians.
Can anyone point me in the right direction of where I could go to find that, or even check any sources you have subscribed to to see if he comes up?
Yeah, I've tried to look up how much he owns of the Calgary Flames, but can't find that either. I was able to find out his stake in his company though.
I know he has a lot of money, his giving history is quite impressive. His largest single gift was $18 million, and he's given a lot more than that too.
I was kind of thinking that net worth would be tricky to find unless you're looking for someone who falls on a Top 100 Richest people type list.
Hi Nicole,
I just wanted to mention that calculating Net Worth is really next to impossible. In order to do that, you need to know a person's debt and liability - not just their assets. It would be easier, and probably a better use of your time (of which I'm sure you don't have extra), to try to figure out his capability. You're absolutley right in thinking that NW is tricky to find unless your prospect is listed in a wealth list (like Forbes, etc.). If his largest gift was $18M - that says a lot about his capability. The next step would be deciding how inclined he is to give to your org.
A formula to estimate NW, however, is:
Age x Total Income / 10 (known as the Stanely-Danko Formula)
Good luck with your search,
Sarah

Thanks Sarah, you're right, I don't have extra time to find the net worth. I have been able to find some good indicators, so hopefully the higher ups are happy with what I've found for them.
