Hi All.

New to prospect. I see info on the actual prospect research process, but I am looking for something more basic.

We have not yet started propecting and I am looking for the best way to start tracking them. We do have the Prospect module. But I am curious as to how other people are using the module.

Specifically, I am looking for what kind of information do you look to store on prospects, which fields do you use for it, and how do you use that data in determining giving capacity.

I would like to develop something where we can give a list of names to our volunteer, give her a list of things to look for, have a "how to enter" it into the module, and be able to easily run reports on it.

What kind of information do you capture that is important- obviously salary, but do yo look at value of home/ business/ lottery winnings/ inheritance or other things you find important is determining net worth.

On almost the same path, is anyone using any sort of wealth tracking software?

Hi,

We use all portions of the Prospect Tab. The Financials and the Gifts to Orgs play the largest role in determining gift capacity.
In terms of financials, we look mainly for salary or an estimate, owned property values, direct stock holdings, and private company equity.

We don't even try to determine net worth - you need to know all assets and debt to do so - and you'll never find all that out using public sources. We do include published wealth rankings (from Forbes, for example).
I've uploaded my data entry and data map for the Tab on to the Shared Files.
We just use the canned profile reports from RE.

In terms of having volunteers do prospecting and sensitive data entry, you may ask them to read and sign a confidentiality agreement. I've uploaded ours to the shared files as well.
