I am a database manager for an itty bitty non profit - Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast. We have 33 employees (on a good day - and usually only for about a day - rapid turnover here) and database manager means Raiser's Edge, another custom jobby with an Access front end named MATS, webmaster, quarterly newsletter, and, since yesterday, Donor Prospect Research. I have yet to figure out exactly what that means, so the good folks at the RE users group on Yahoo pointed me here. This is my first non-profit job - I was working in Access for about 11 years with a little dB IV on the side before I got here in March.
I am a former New Yorker now living on the west coast of Florida so in addition to diving into a whole new sector of employment with it's own terminology I am learning to understand people with accents I never heard before.
So, the old dog has to learn mondo new tricks. Please bear with me, I ask many dumb questions - but I am a fast learner. Thanks for the invite, I will be mostly listening here until I figure out what I am doing....

Welcome fellow transplant altho' at this point (17 years here in FLA, I'm considered a semi-native - still, a New Jersey boy (er, um old geezer) at heart. I will emphatically underscore the value of this group - many helpful, KNOWLEDGEABLE folks here with very BIG hearts - willing to assist on just about everything & experienced on RE. If it's been encountered, they've seen it/done it.

Just be glad you moved from NY to Fla and not the surrounding states; their accents are a whole other story.
Having worked with clients in many Southern states over the years, and spent time in Texas ( a whole other 'country' according to THEM while in the Military a lifetime ago, it's a delight listening to all the regional 'deliveries' and inflections.

I have always enjoyed different accents - my favorite will always be a good New York accent - a thick Long Island is music to me. I did meet a local woman down here (as in family tree has no branches....) who told me she raises Pibbles. After asking her to repeat that a few times, I finally realized she meant Pit Bulls........
