I know that there is sparse documentation on the 5.1 API. Perhaps someone here has been able to create a custom part to insert a donation? Or a custom part to edit a user profile?
My question is really just have you been able to do this, or is this not possible?

We created a custom donation page but we used the REAPI to accomplish this. I would imagine it's possible to use the NetCommunity API. We chose the REAPI because much of the code to do the donation insert to RE was already written. We just wrapped it in a webservice after some tweaking and had out custom part reference that.
I'm not sure on editing the user profile. We use the out of the box stuff for that and it works pretty well. If you give me a bit more detail about what you want to edit i might be able to give you a better answer.
