Hi all,
I wanted to do this great integration piece with Outlook and RE. Our Gift Officers wanted to bring down contacts and tasks from RE into Outlook. Problem is that it seems that the program requires the Gift Officer to have constituent edit access. Well as part of our policies we don't allow them to edit constituent data. Is there a way to successfully download actions/constituent info from RE into Outlook without killing our policy on constituent data entry?
Thanks,
Lisbett
We just ran into the same issue and ultimately decided to give just one person access. This one person is now the site administrator when I am not available (it was tough for me to let that go). But in the long run it seemed like a good solution, now I can take a vacation - as if.
Well how do we control persons from being a free for all an entering data. Anyone know of a security training for Blackbaud and setting of data standards?
Thanks for your help,
Lisbett

I don't know your background or experience with RE, but have you looked at the Configuration and Security Guide?

I've done a lot of research into this and while it looks like a great function, it writes the wrong information over to Outlook. (in short, if you're Business info is preferred address, it writes to outlook as HOME address --- and it won't copy over individuals Primary Business Org name to the Company field, and it won't copy the job title/position info over either --- kinda sad, considering anyone who bothers to copy RE info into outlook probably is more geared to Business info).
That said, we're working on a RE export (straight from query - with the column fields renamed to the exact outlook import) that'll go into Outlook. I'm just finalizing what OUTLOOK determines as a duplicate, and then writing some documentation.
I'm thinking eventually we'll do a bulk export/import initially, then we can utiize that query/export on a case-by-case basis.
I can't think of any other way at the moment, and tragically it's not something BB is putting any work towards solving at this time.
Regards,
Joe Meehan

Hi All,
I did discover that if a person is assigned a solicitor or manager of a constituent the data for that constituent is sent into Outlook. We don't want to update RE with any Outlook related data since we want our solicitors to get into the rhythm of putting everything in RE. The security did not change at all with exception that a solicitor can download data related to their constituent assignment.
Thanks for all your help!
