Question Mail merge wizard won't work on one computer

Can anyone out there help me with this one? I'm at my wits end with BB and my IT guy is saying that it's a RE issue while BB denies that it is. So, here's the problem.

All workstations in my dept. are the same and running Office 2000 on XP. This particular machine freezes up and produces error messages (activex, runtime) anytime I attempt to access a task in the mail merge wizard. It can be through Mail or in the consitituent's record, but at this point I cannot print out membership cards or donor acknowledgement letters because the merge wizard won't merge with RE data and produce the results.

So far we have uninstalled and reinstalled RE, repaired RE, uninstalled and reinstalled Office, tested under different Windows and RE logins (still same error) all to no avail. BB suggested I run the process monitor and was saying that there are file permissions issues, but I see nothing coming up in the monitor log file and my IT guy assures me that everyone here has the same file permissions and set-up, so that wouldn't be a reson for this one machine to be having the issue.

If anyone has any further suggestions, please do post them because I have got to get this machine working but I don't know what else to do!

Thanks!

it's extreme, but can you reinstall windows? It's less of a big deal if
your org has a disk image that can be slapped on, but harder if you have to
manually install everything.

Well I guess it's worth a try to reinstall the OS, since there aren't any other options on the table at the moment. I have BB support still researching the issue, but am not confident that they will come up with something easier than trying to just start from scratch.

Thanks for the suggestion, and I'll update with results.

Don't know if this hits the spot, but read the following two threads on this forum - they may trigger an idea:

Conditional Mail Merge Loses Formatting

Microsoft Word 2003 Normal.doc Error

Until it's resolved, you may want to export out of RE and do a mail merge w/ just the Excel output and Word (may not be a complete work around by itself, be the wizard can mark gifts processed or other similar activities related to the merge).

I had a very similar issue... try a couple of things... try giving the user has local admin rights to the local machine. This is done on the local machine through Control Panel - User Settings. Not the best option but it will most likely resolve the problem. Second there was a release of XP the was buggy I don't know the exact revision number but it drove me crazy - reinstalling won't help since the same issue occurs, do you have service pack 3 installed if not try installing SP3. If it is one of the screwy revisions I would hope that the SP would resolve the issue. Lastly is the CDO (Collaboration Data Objects) installed and working correctly? When you open RE are you able to see the Dashboard panels on the Home page? If not try downloading and reinstalling CDO from the MS website.

Hope one of those help!!

Best

Robert
