Question acknowledgement letters and conditional mail merge

Hi All,

I am trying to create acknowledgement letters with a calculated fair market value and can't figure out how to do it.

So, it happens to be a golfing event.

For team sponsorships -

12 players - $25,000 FMV - $8,400 Tax deductible - $16,600
8 players - $10.000 FMV - $5,600 Tax deductible - $4,400
4 players - $5,000 FMV - $2,800 Tax deductible - $2,200
2 players - $2,500 FMV - $1,400 Tax deductible - $1,100
1 player - $1,250 FMV - $700 Tax deductible - $550

Our event manager wants to the letter to merge in tax deductible amount based on the ticket purchase.

The statement goes something like this:

"For IRS purposes, the fair market value of your sponsorship is <Fair market value>. Therefore, the amount of <tax deductible amount> is your charitible contribution."

What kind-of operator do I use and how? I'm stumped.

Thanks all,

Wendy

What we do is use the receipt amount field for the tax deductible
portion of their sponsorship and the gift amount for the total
sponsorship amount. So our letter says something like: thank you for
your $10,000.00 sponsorship, of which $4,400.00 is tax deductible.

IRS publication 1771 requires that you include a description and value of all benefits received. You can do this in a few ways.

If you use the receipt amount as the portion that is tax deductible you can use a fomula in Word to subtract the Receipt Amount from the Gift Amount to get you the difference or FMV of benefits. You would then need to find some way to put the description of the benefits into the letter through the reference or an attribute or some way.

Or you can actually enter use the benefits button on the gift to add benefits and their values to the gift. The description and value (I belive the total value of all benefits you add) is then exportable in mail.
