When RE generates a gift letter, you can look at the list of letter's you've sent to a constituent. But you can't look at text that was customized. The only thing you can read is what RE keeps on generating.

Office staff has been customizing some of the thank you letters for small targeted constituents and has been 'saving' the changes when viewing the changed template in MS Word. Firstly, does anyone know where the temporary file is saved? I looked in Blackbaud program files. The temp file is where it should be (before being saved), but once saved cant find it. the file name is something bb_017.doc (i want to find those saved files)

Does anyone know of a way to display the exact custom text via RE, that office staff writes in letters, other than managing all these .doc files on our own.

When in MS word we can save the correspondence as a 'action' but again the changed text does not migrate/integrate.

In my experience when you save a letter as an action it saves the text of the letter. If it isn't then it's probably worth reporting as a bug.

I've actually gone through the trouble of saving them as .doc files. I produce the letters by batch, so I have a file called "receipts", then in there I have each quarter as another file, then the receipt batch word documents get saved by batch number. The thank you's get saved in another file in the quarterly ones called "Thank yous" (original, eh? ) It seems like a lot, but they're nested appropriately and anyone can refer back to the letters or receipts if need be, and they're easy to find. I only keep the current and previous year's on file.
