Mailing Label Question

When you are running labels in RE:Mail, is there a way to force the lines to print further down into the label? Our labels have the organization name and address at the top of the label, and we need the address information moved further down in the label so as not to over-write the pre-printed label header.

I tried the "Skip ___ lines before printing first line" option in "Format" tab, but that doesn't seem to have accomplished anything. I suggested manually merging the information into a Word Template, but they don't want to do that for some good reasons.

The skip ___ lines feature has always worked successfully for me. I don't know any other way other than that which you suggested.

Jay,
I'm not sure what kind of printer you are using...laser or dot-matrix. Ok, ok, a dot-matrix maybe "old" but still quite workable for labels. On a dot-matrix I would align the label under the logo before printing. On a laser printer you may have to "fiddle" with the printer settings within the "property" tab on the printer settings to align it correctly. So I wouldn't "waste" good labels, I would make several copies of the labels and "play" with the settings via the printer first, within the "mail" module second.
As a second thought....on the General tab...have you tried changing the number in the box for "start printing in row" or "column"?
Each printer is different, so I'm sorry I cannot give you exact margins, but once you get them, be sure to write them down!
Good luck!!

That just adjusts which label you start using - if you would skip the first row on the label sheet or want to start in the second column instead of the first one.

I checked with our BB rep and she said that she didn't know of any other way either. Thanks for all your help, folks!

Barbara, thanks for the memories!!!

Dot-Matrix!! Ya know, that was one thing you could do with those things - position a label where you wanted to!

When we use the skip a line feature for laser printing in RE, it leaves off the last line of the address when there's 4 lines, so it doesn't always work.

I wonder if you "lied" to the program by choosing a label size that is different from what you are actually printing on - I don't know what size might work to push the text down a line when printing - I might try that myself sometime. Would need to experiment a bit with the various options.

Good Luck!

We too have a rather large logo and return address on our shipping labels. The only way I could get the name and address to print far enough down was to utilize the User Margin Utility. It is a plug-in. I picked the closest avery label and then adjusted the top margin. This does only change it for me though, not all users.
