Quick Letters Export

Greetings from the north country...this is my first posting, although I have been browsing for some time. We are a two person development office with about 11,000 constituent records.

I have had this problem for ages with no apparent resolution from BB while they acknowledged it is a glitch. Our db has hundreds of organization records with numerous contacts who are also are linked to other organization records, as well as to their own individual record and/or with a joint spouse record.

When I use Quick letters to export an invitation list or newsletter, under the Org address tab, contact information, I select "if contact also receives mailing as individual, then mail to individual address only." I get individuals receiving mail at the org address as well as home. I also have mail to head of household checked. It seems the problem arises when:

1. a married couple each has their own individual record (both are linked) and they are also contacts for one or more org records

2. the spouse record is a contact for multiple orgs

and there are other weird combinations as well.....

Does anyone have a solution? I feel like after all these years I should be able to get a simple mail list. I think the real problem is with all the linking - for the most part our constituents are married working professionals with a variety of contacts and relationships.

I wind up exporting to excel, separating addressee info to isolate last name, manipulating and comparing names, etc....If I try to do use export instead of Quick letters, there are so many variables, it makes it so unwieldy to factor in all the address processing for individuals and orgs in one export.

Thanks for your help!
