and for Today's "what the @#$% were they thinking...."
So, we're doing the annual holiday card mailing, and I have an address attribute so that the mail module (labels) will properly pull the address that should be used for the holiday cards in cases when it's not the preferred. In Address Processing on the Ind. Address tab, I have the attribute selected for Step 3....BUT IT DOESN'T WORK.
It took the support analyst (after waiting about 20 minutes for someone to answer((<--THIS HASN'T GOTTEN BETTER!!!!!!!!) over half an hour to figure this out on a screen sharing session. I was on hold being tortured by that music ((<--THIS HASN'T GOTTEN BETTER!!!!!!!) while she and presumably someone else ran throught the steps and checked my constituent addresses and mail setup at least 5 times.
TURNS OUT...are you ready for this?? You have to have all the address types that could possibly have the attribute(s) you're using in Step 3 moved over to the right in Step 2. Go ahead, read that through a few times...
Afterwards, she referenced knowledgebase item # BB518...which I haven't read yet...as it's a rather lengthy detailed BB-ese description of how address processing (clearly the most straightforward process in RE) "works."
Here's a screen shot:

Note: If you select to use address attributes as part of your selection criteria for individual addresses, the address record is first checked (before Step 1) for the attribute's presence. The program then proceeds with Steps 1 and 2.
What numbering system are they using where Step 3 comes before Steps 1 and 2? Why don't they just make Step 3 into Step 1? Then they wouldn't need the disclaimer that Step 3 is really Step 0. What were they thinking?

Do you really need to ask?? They were thinking about beach parties and bon bons... Or Margaritas, but sometimes I think they get those provided... Who really knows...
