Executive Director for Development Services, TX
The Executive Director for Development Services reports to the Associate Vice President for Development and Alumni Affairs and manages four units (Development Research and Prospect Management, Development Management Systems, Records and Gift Administration, and Donor Relations) with the goal of providing support to all fundraisers of the University including the President, the Vice President for Development and External Affairs, the Directors of Development for various Schools and areas who comprise the Principal Gifts team, the Directors of Development comprising the National Major Giving Programs team, and the staff and managers in Annual Giving, Endowment and Planned Giving, and Corporate and Foundation Giving. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to leading and managing a team responsible for prospect research program development, identifying and evaluating major gifts prospects, capacity rating analysis and screening programs, and prospect relationship management; leading and managing a systems team responsible for coordinating, managing, and developing a system to support fundraising and alumni relations efforts, data integrity, data retrieval, data reporting including report development, network and systems support (including document imaging), training for system users, and serving as module lead for contributor relations in PeopleSoft/Oracle; leading and managing a team responsible for coordinating and executing all gift processing and associated gift administration activity, as well as the maintenance and documentation of a 225,000+ constituent records database; leading and managing a donor relations team charged with ensuring excellent stewardship, recognition, and customer service for donors after a gift is made. The Executive Director will develop and take responsibility for creating and managing the budget; providing leadership to a staff of 25 personnel; managing the department including setting and meeting annual and long-term goals in support of the operational and strategic goals of the division; expanding market research and data mining efforts in support of fundraising efforts; evaluating and developing reporting tools for fundraisers as needed by the Associate Vice President in evaluating fundraiser performance, reporting fundraisers’ progress, and other reporting needs; and serving as liaison to the central Information Technology Services division of the University. A Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of eight years’ work experience OR a Master’s degree with five years’ work experience is required. Experience in managing professional staff is essential, preferably a team of 10 or more. Candidates must demonstrate strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills and must be committed to the support of advancement. Must also demonstrate strong attention to detail and demonstrate the ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects effectively. Candidates must possess strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to think collaboratively and strategically while participating in senior-level decision-making. Experience with a capital campaign is preferred. Experience with PeopleSoft or other comparable database management system and with a prospect management database is highly desirable. Experience with both research and systems teams is highly desirable. Experience in a university and/or a nonprofit setting is a plus. Position is open until filled.
