Chief Financial Officer Job Description KickStart is an award-winning, global nonprofit social enterprise that develops and mass-markets low-cost tools and equipment that are bought by thousands of poor people in developing countries and used to increase their income by up to a factor of ten, enabling them to lift themselves out of poverty forever. Using an entrepreneurial business model, KickStart has proven its cost-effective solution to poverty in Kenya, Tanzania and Mali, and is now focused on replicating its model in other parts of Africa and beyond. KickStart plans to expand into 3 new countries in Sub-Saharan Africa in the next 3 years. It is also starting to market its best selling products (produced in China) to other development and relief organizations worldwide (B2B sales). In order to finance this growth KickStart is rapidly diversifying and expanding both its donor funding base and its earned income streams. As the organization expands, KickStart needs an experienced senior level executive to manage the financial growth. This is a unique opportunity to join an exciting and expanding international non-profit and to provide critical leadership in growing and managing our financial and administrative systems worldwide. Responsibilities: The CFO will be responsible for all financial and administrative tasks to support the strategic goals of this growing organization. The CFO will be responsible for the financial health of each country office as well as the overall organization worldwide. As the organization grows and new country offices are opened, the CFO's responsibilities will become increasingly complex. Finance ·Work with management to create and manage budgets for each country, headquarters and the overall organization according to the strategic objectives ·Manage cash flow world wide and by country office ·Define fundraising requirements to support strategic objectives ·Define fundraising projections ·Manage tax and regulatory filings worldwide ·Organize and manage external audits ·Provide regular financial reports to senior management and Board of Directors ·Provide financial reports and financial information as required by donors ·Establish organizational-wide financial management and reporting policies ·Create and implement investment policy and invest excess cash as appropriate ·Implement appropriate software to manage finance worldwide ·Provide strategic financial management for supply chain and for B2B sales ·Manage all bank accounts ·Manage all accounting & day to day bookkeeping ·Manage debt - loans, letters of credit - as needed ·Supervise finance staff in Africa Administrative ·Oversee and manage compliance on contracts and legal requirements ·Inform management/board and provide strategic leadership on all nonprofit compliance issues, take responsibility for maintaining compliance ·Manage all fixed assets, leases, intellectual property worldwide ·Implement and manage all appropriate insurance (staff, property, D&O) ·Oversee Human Resources functions and employee contracts, including expatriates ·Manage employee benefits worldwide ·Implement and manage information systems worldwide ·Implement and lead a knowledge management system ·Supervise San Francisco Business Office Manager Qualifications: ·Passion for KickStart's values and belief in its mission ·Desire to lead a rapidly changing organization through a significant growth stage, from a $3 million budget to a $30 million budget in the next 5-6 years ·5-10 yrs financial management experience at a senior level ·Strategic planning experience ·Cost allocation experience ·Experience with implementing MIS ·Results/performance orientation - proven "self starter" ·Thrives in an entrepreneurial, "start-up like" environment ·Experience working in developing countries (preferably in Africa) , ·Ability to travel as necessary - to Africa and other developing areas ·Proven ability to manage finances across multiple countries ·Prefer experience in both commercial and nonprofit financial management ·USAID grant management experience preferred ·MBA, CPA or CFA preferred Details: ·Full time position reporting to the Chief Executive Officer ·Based at worldwide headquarters in San Francisco or in Nairobi, Kenya regional office ·Anticipate annual minimum of six months assignment in Africa during first two years ·Salary commensurate with experience and abilities ·We are eager to have this person start as soon as possible, but will take whatever time we need to find the right person ·To apply, submit a resume/CV and cover letter to CFO@KickStart.org with "CFO Position" in the subject line. ·In your cover letter, please indicate how you learned of this position.
