ORGANIZATION INFORMATION: NEW is a nonprofit organization that helps the construction industry and other blue-collar employers increase their workforce diversity by preparing women for nontraditional jobs in the building and construction trades, in public utilities, and transportation industries. Graduates of NEW’s skills training programs are placed in union construction careers as carpenters, painters, electricians, laborers, plumbers, elevator mechanics and in public utilities and transportation careers. NEW is the largest, most successful pre-apprenticeship training program in the United States. As the first tradeswomen’s organization in the nation, NEW works to change the climate for women in nontraditional work by providing advocacy and technical assistance services to labor unions and employers. NEW is the recipient of the 2004 Exemplary Public Interest Contribution (EPIC) Award from the United States Department of Labor. The EPIC Award honors public interest organizations that have supported equal employment opportunity. NEW is based in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF FINANCE OFFICER: • Prepare monthly, quarterly and interim reports. • Develop operating forecasts and analyses in consultation with the Executive Director and Board Finance Committee • Prepare, administer and monitor the organization-wide operating budget as part of a financial plan that effectively supports the organization’s goals and objectives and financial welfare. • Oversee reporting requirements and financial management strategies of training department • Using FundEZ, maintain all financial records, including but not limited to: accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, bank reconciliations. • Process payroll and oversee employee benefits, such as 403B pension plan, TransitCheck, etc. • Track expenses and prepare regular financial reports for grants, and government contracts. • Work with Development Director on FEZ fundraising interface – ensuring the two systems reconcile and donations and grants are acknowledged. • Coordinate annual audit and 990 preparations with independent accountants. • Assist the Executive Director in matters relating to the maintenance or renovation of the premises. Assist in communications with contractors, architects, lawyers and landlord.
