WaterPartners International, a rapidly growing nonprofit, is looking for a Finance Director. Our projected budget this year of $3M will likely double within the next fiscal year. Since 1990 we've provided over 100,000 people in developing countries with clean drinking water. We have an innovative initiave underway, called WaterCredit, which provides microcredit loans to communities, and is attracting several large foundations in terms of potential funders. The Finance Director will be an exciting opportunity. In addition to the job description listed below, our ideal candidate is someone who pays attention to detail, strives for excellence, looks for creative opportunities and partnerships in problem solving, and is passionate about making a difference. Offices located in Kansas City and Chapel Hill. Overview: The Finance Director attends to all day-to-day financial management and office administration responsibilities for the organization. Additionally, the Finance Director provides oversight of financial records and reports for compliance with grants. Responsibilities: Financial Accounting and Reporting • Maintain detailed and accurate records according to WaterPartners’ accounting system guidelines and procedures. • Maintain records and prepare reports to document expenditure of grant funds according to specific donor requirements. • Record all accounts payable and accounts receivable and ensure timely payments according to contracts and budgets. • Collect and transmit all payroll data and maintain employee records for payroll processing. • Process all credit and debit card transactions. • Process expense reports submitted by staff. • Process mail-in and on-line donations. • Prepare and deliver all bank deposits. • Coordinate transfer of funds to international partner organizations • Prepare monthly financial statements for the Board of Directors and senior staff. • Prepare financial reports for cost/benefits analyses of specific fundraising campaigns or programs as requested. • Maintain banking records and files and update signature cards as necessary. • Work with auditor and Board treasurer in compilation of annual report, audit, form 990 and other required filings. • Serve as liaison with external finance consultants and auditors. • Ensure internal controls and procedures in compliance with GAAP • Coordinate annual budget process • Work with Director of Operations to design and implement innovative performance management tools. Other duties will be required or requested for effective job performance. This is not a contract for employment but an outline of essential functions and expectations. Experience Required: 5 yrs Preferred Degree: Bachelors Job Certifications: Candidates for the Finance Director position must have at least 5 years financial accounting experience and be proficient with Quickbooks accounting software. Experience managing federal government grants also required. Strong verbal and written communications, teamwork, budgeting and problem solving skills are required. Must demonstrate critical thinking, good judgment, confidentiality,initiative, attention to detail and professionalism. Familiarity with microcredit financing a plus.
