My organization is looking for a web app developer to create dynamic tools within NetCommunity (and outside, too). You will have the chance to create some cutting edge web app for the birdwatchers out there. Birdwatching is the second largest hobby, just behind Gardening.
Job Description Located at the Imogene Powers Johnson Center for Birds and Biodiversity in the 220-acre Sapsucker Woods sanctuary, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology is the world's leading resource for conservation, research, education, and citizen science focused on birds. The lab is a vibrant unit within Cornell's College of Agriculture & Life Sciences, where several full-time faculty teach undergraduate courses, advise graduate students, and manage world-class, mission-driven programs. Conceptualize, organize, implement, and provide growth of all the Office of Web Communications (OWC) programming systems including Web applications, Page-delivery systems, Content management systems, ecommerce functionality, Site management systems, etc. Develop and maintain pages and templates in NetCommunity content management system. Ensure sites/pages are programmed to run within the user's browser environment and load within reasonable time. Collaborate with the designer to implement/update designs in NetCommunity system. Manage multiple deadlines and priorities with minimal direction from supervisor. Implement HTML/CSS in the NetCommunity system provided by designers. Integrate NetCommunity system with RaisersEdge membership management system. Stay abreast of changes in web development technology, web server software, security, and the NetCommunity CMS. Evaluate new technologies and techniques. Recommend to supervisor about when and how to deploy. Lead quality assurance based on existing procedures or specific project requirements. Train staff of Cornell Lab of Ornithology and affiliated organizations in the use of NetCommunity system on an as-needed basis, and provide ongoing support. Set up eCommerce and eCampaign systems in NetCommunity. Integrate and maintain web log analysis software. Ensure the smooth function of these systems on OWC hardware. May assign and review work done by development by other fulltime, contract and student staff.
One-year term appointment with possibility of renewal based upon availability of funding.

Job Qualifications
Bachelors degree; 2-3 years experience or equivalent. Proven success in developing reusable, database-driven, web applications. Demonstrated proficiency building applications using WIN 2000, IIS, MS SQL Server, ASP.NET, Web Services, XML, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. The applications must function in our cross-platform and multiple browser environments. Experience integrating remote applications and third party utilities with resident web applications. Ability to translate design and functional requirements into technology and web design options. Demonstrated proficiency in relational database design, conceiving and implementing ecommerce applications, resolving access and security issues, GUI, navigation and some web site design experience. Familiarity with QA/QC conventions. Ability to balance interesting design and innovation with usability. Appreciation of and attention to usability and accessibility standards. Demonstrated leadership ability in team environment. Strong service orientation. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasked, team-based environment. Must be able to manage multiple competing deadlines and be able to prioritize work with minimal input from supervisor. Ability to build working relationships to solve problems and achieve common goals. Able to adapt to changing priorities, situations, and demands. Quality assurance and customer-service experience. Prior training experience; ability to express highly technical terms in layman's terms. Experience with IIS and MS SQL Server administration. Experience in .Net programming for Windows App. Experience with building, maintaining, and administering sites in content management systems. Familiarity with web issues/challenges/features specific to membership based organizations. Knowledge of IBM WebSphere, JSP, Plone, Zope, Python, WebTrends, and FatWire. A keen interest in birds and ornithology is a plus. Experience with RaisersEdge.
