Development Services Manager, Woodland Park Zoo, Seattle WA
Job Title: Manager, Development Services Department: Development Reports To: Manager, Development Programs and Services FLSA Status: Exempt Salary: Based on Experience
SUMMARY Oversees Development Services and is the primary manager of TheRaiser's Edge database. Assumes responsibility for database integrity, Development Services systems and membership customer service support.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Responsible for the ultimate integrity of the Raiser's Edge database, insuring the overall usefulness of the system for a variety of users; most specifically for Development and Accounting. Serve as overall manager for The Raiser's Edge database. Maintain accuracy and consistency of information by owning, creating and implementing policies and procedures related to the system. Provide general computer troubleshooting for Development staff as it relates to The Raiser's Edge database. Work closely with Information Technology (IT) to lead Development Services efforts towards increased efficiencies and meeting long-term strategic objectives. Work closely with IT, Accounting, Admissions and Marketing departments, in addition to others, to reduce redundant processing systems, to strategize, and to implement processes that will further long-term database objectives for the Development Services area. Work to minimize problems related to database use, reports and list generation, and provide ongoing recommendations on improving Development Services systems. Work closely with zoo departments to provide lists, reports, exports and database changes, as requested, while managing the process of these requests as they relate to long-term departmental objectives. Provide training and usage assistance to zoo staff on TheRaiser's Edge database. Oversee membership customer service support and effectively ensure high-quality customer service. Manage content, validity and production of specific monthly reports created and used by Development. Create customized reports as needed. Serve as the Woodland Park Zoo client representative to Blackbaud, as a Raiser's Edge database user. Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervises the Development Services team (3-5 employees). Responsibilities include: interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 2-3 years experience administrating The Raiser's Edge or other relational databases. Experience demonstrating excellent interpersonal and organizational communication skills. Successful experience developing training programs and effectively training others. Prefer 1-2 years of supervisory experience: data processing staff structure or similar performance-based environment is ideal. Good organizational skills with the ability to balance and prioritize multiple tasks and requests, and meet deadlines in a professional manner. Demonstrated ability to develop, promote and provide high quality customer service, both to internal and external customers Ability to be effective while working both independently and as a team member. SQL and/or Access experience is extremely helpful. Commitment to the mission of Woodland Park Zoo and the institution's core values.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree with formal education in computer applications, or equivalent; or four to ten years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
