Position Title: Friends of the UUA Director
Department: Stewardship & Development
Reports to: Associate Vice President of Stewardship & Development
Basic Purpose: To assist in, maintain and grow the UUA donor base through annual gifts to the Friends of the UUA campaign using direct mail, telemarketing, the Internet, special events, and the like. Manages the donor stock gifts. Receives and directs inquiries from visitors, donors, trustees, and field staff and answers routine inquiries about the Friends Campaign through correspondence and phone contact.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Coordinates the development of written materials for direct mail appeals and telemarketing campaigns for Friends of the UUA. Manages outsourcing of direct mail appeal printing and mailing. Helps to plan and produce brochures and other information and presentation pieces to promote contributions to the UUA.
- Manages customer service to donors and the gift acknowledgment process.
- Manages telemarketing campaigns for new donor acquisition and renewals to Friends of the UUA. Manages vendor services for telemarketing.
- Manages system to quantify results of the various appeals.
- Gauges effectiveness of fundraising efforts that make up the Friends of the UUA campaign and recommends and implements changes, as appropriate, to achieve the financial goals of the program.
- Generates timely and accurate forecasts of income from the Friends campaign. Works closely with the Vice President of Stewardship & Development and the Director of Budget and Operations to ensure alignment between the UUA operating budget income assumptions and income received by the Friends campaign.
- Prepares and analyzes periodic status reports on Friends campaign. Ensures that Stewardship & Development records of gifts to Friends are reconciled with those in UUA Finance Department at least quarterly.
- Supervises Friends Assistant and works with other staff responsible for donor relations and gift data entry related to the Friends of the UUA campaign. Works closely with the Stewardship & Development in implementing donor recognition and stewardship programs (premiums, events, and the like).
- Prepares and monitors the annual budget for Friends of the UUA. Reviews monthly profit/loss statement with the Vice-President for Stewardship & Development.
- Manages small, specialized appeals for different development programs including President’s Council, Board of Trustees and in-house staff appeals.
- Ensures that state solicitation notices and registration forms are filed as required.
- Performs additional duties as requested by the President, Executive Vice-President or Vice-President for Stewardship & Development.

This is an Exempt Level 13 position (grade minimum $51,800). Individual must have strong interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication, and administrative skills. He or she must have excellent skills with MS Excel and MS Word,
and preferably with The Raiser’s Edge or a similar database program.
Ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge of Unitarian Universalism and, preferably, the UUA organization and culture. He or she must be available to represent the Friends of the UUA at General Assembly, district events, conferences and in individual congregations; experience with fundraising and resource development is preferred.
