I'm wondering if anyone went to the session at the conference on Data Warehousing & Business Intelligence. If not, you can access the slides at conferencecentral.blackbaud.com. On Slide #10, there's a statement that says "TIE will be phased out". I'm wondering what people have heard about the future of TIE.
I think they're phasing it out and bringing in BBDM - but BBDM isn't a replacement for TIE, though they will be trying to make sure that everything TIE could do, BBDM could do better... more or less...

BB is doing a complete overhaul of TIE. I think that they've scrapped pretty much everything and are starting over from scratch using a lot more of the functionality built into MS Analysis Services. For instance, the ETL (Extract, Transform, and Load) from RE is based on SSIS rather than BB's own ETL program. I think that they're calling it BBBI (Blackbaud Business Intelligence).

BBDM is only replacing the Segmentation part of TIE. There is much more to TIE than the segmentation part, so BBDM is only superseding that part of TIE. For everything else, you'll have to wait until they release BBBI.

Weird because that's not what they were telling us at the demo they gave for us. One of the BB people there was a TIE expert and the reason they had TIE people working on BBDM is so that it can do everything TIE can do - this was their mantra practically. I don't know TIE but as far as I could see and from the reaction of our TIE guy () it seemed to do everything bar one or two things - the main one being the ability to create smart tags, though there would be smart tags built in.
Where did you hear that they were rehauling TIE from? They told us there would be no more new versions of it...
From our TIE contact, apparently BBBI isn't finalised yet, there isn't even a demo and it's only on its frist build... also BBBI is only a working title. So you're in there early Drew!
I attended a breakfast meeting to demo a beta version of BBDM at the 2006 conference and I also attended Allen Eager's presentation on BI at the 2007 conference. Most of my information comes from those two events. Allen Eager is one of the people behind TIE and the new BBBI, so I trust his information.

I have also heard from other users that TIE is bascially going to be depricated. We're going live with TIE in April 2008, so I'm not sure all of what it can do. I'll have a better understanding of it soon. From the discussions I've had with people, I'm not that impressed.
