We have information edge installed and don't have any money in the budget for training a member of staff in how to use it. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get started?
We have had Information Edge installed but have no money in the budget to train someone to use or pay for a consultant. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get started?

My recommendation is to find the money to send someone out for training. TIE is a complicated enough program that it can be overwhelming to try figure out on your own. Even after our first training, I didn't feel that I understood TIE and it totally went over the heads of everybody else. We scheduled a second training with a different trainer and it made much more sense the second time around. Even so, it was only after a really started using TIE that it really started to make sense. The second training included the Donor Analytics Package, and most of what I've learned came from looking at and tweaking that package.

It is better to live your destiny imperfectly than to live an imitation of somebody else's life with perfection.
I would have to agree with Drew on this one. It's a very, very complicated product and not designed to be a self-taught module. I'd re-evaluate the return-on-investment assessment and figure out if the business case is really there to support the product, then you should invest in the training or you just won't ever get the real power out of the tool.
We had excellent TIE training in September 2006, a full 7 months before we went live. As you would expect, we've forgotten all that information and no one is using TIE in our multi-hospital system.
Now that we've been live for four months, and I'm quite comfortable with the table structure of RE and our Data Warehouse, I think I'd get much more value out of the TIE training. At the very least, I expect to read the resource guide after we climb out of the hole we've been in since going live.
I was disappointed not to see any TIE subjects offered at the BB conference.

Oh I am certain that there are TIE subjects at the conference. After 4 years of conferences learning that "Analyzing your data" or the like is probably an hour long commercial for TIE. They don't always like to give away in the title that in order to achieve the goal you need to buy a new product.
Also remember that the conference is not a replacement for training. Workshops give overviews, hints and tricks but is not intended to be training.
