Question Example of entering planned gifts on RE - CRAT, CRUT, etc...

Hello, all -- Does anyone have an example of how you book a gift annuity into RE? We don't have any "Planned Giving" module, just the regular gift module. Is there a standard place for face value, net present value, etc., etc., or do we make it up as we go along?

thank you --

DonnaB

We use gift subtype and fund numbers to track planned giving. We have subtypes of Annuity, Beguest-Will/Trust, CGA, CRT, IRA/Pension and other planned gift.

Here's what I did...

Thanks, Nina -- I did use the gift subtype, and created one for Planned Gifts-Charitable Annuity. If and when we get others, I'll add the subtypes for those (I already had one for Bequest Intention). Then I added gift attributes for the face value, NPV, etc., so that we can track those for the CAE survey. I also booked the gift for the full amount of the check, and I'm not sure that was correct (because the charitable deduction portion is different). That's where I really feel sort of shaky on this one...I'm going to do a bit more research today and see if I can dig something up. John Taylor has something cogent, I'm sure! =.]

Thanks again -- I'll keep you posted on what I find...

I've tried a method that I thought worked pretty well - absent the Planned Giving Module of course.

It involved posting a single gift, identified as DonnaB does as a Gift Subtype. Then, I split the gift into two amount & funds: one amount for the annuity reserve and the other for our estimated earnings.

Unfortunately, our Development Director at the time thought it sounded too confusing so we never implemented it. Thought it might be something for you to consider, however.

We use the prospect module for this as we consider these future gifts, not 'current year" gifts.
