Non-Deductible Contributions

Do you record non-deductible contributions?

We just had our annual golf outing and we have money for non-deductible items like strings, mulligans, and drawing tickets. For the most part, we know who paid what (even cash), but I'm struggling with the possibility of these non deductible items skewing totals and causing these participants to show up on LYBUNT/SYBUNT reports if they don't happen to attend in following years (if these constituents have no other involvement with us).

Can anyone offer any insight?

Non-Deductible Contributions

It is probably best not to even enter these in RE. I would probably
just send the income to Finance to book as other income and not even
record it in RE.

I would record them for recognition purposes... We record ours into our recognition funds (which are excluded from all reports except Annual Recognition). That way you can show that they did give to the organization even tho its not deductible for tax purposes...

We record ours in a fund called EVENT REVENUE NOT GIFTS RELATED.... that way the gift in kinds (tee's, shirts, balls etc can be recorded there as well as mulligan income and other monitary items that come in.

I think all contributions should be entered into RE. If the amount is either fully or partially non-tax-deductible, the receipt amount on the gift should reflect this. When you steward a donor, you want a Full and Complete picture of all contributions to your organization...not just the ones for which they received a tax deduction which is between them and the IRS not them and your organization.
