Statisics request: individual donors vs. org donors

I was just curious if any of you had a rough idea of the split between org donors and ind donors to your non-profit. I am trying to convince the powers that be that our stats are way WAY skewed beyond industry norms. Here's some stats from us:

NAIT Donation stats 2006-7
· Individuals
o 676 gifts (49%)
o $299,599.79 (3%)
· Organizations
o 700 gifts (51%)
o $10,142,406.94 (97%)

Building on Demand Donation Stats
· Individuals
o 2431 gifts (65%)
o $766,978.48 (1.8%)
· Organizations
o 1310 gifts (35%)
o $42,256,535.41 (98.2%)

Individuals
526 donors (83%)
$141,093 (14%)

Organizations
109 donors (17%)
$887,468 (86%)

How do these numbers stack up to Giving USA? Does anyone have this year's copy?

I heard this many, many years ago that approximately 20% of the givers give 80% of the money.

It is more like 90/10 these days but the interesting breakdown is between individuals and organizations.

Last I saw Giving USA something more than 85% of the money being given in the US comes from Individuals. Now this includes religious institutions (which, correct me if I am wrong) get most if their money from individuals) and estates but I always shudder when I see organizations relying too heavily on organization funding and underestimating what they can get from individuals.

That's exactly the spot I'm in and I am trying to convince the poers that be that something like BBNC will go a long way in helping us reach more individuals and cultivate them towards being donors.

What is hard for me to understand is the circle of giving from individual to foundation to charity. When Giving USA cites those statistics are they sometimes talking about the same money?

Donor A gives to $10,000 Foundation B in their donor advised fund
Foundation B gives $2,000 to Charity C (donor advised)

Does Giving USA count both the gift from the individual and the gift from the foundaiton in their numbers. If so, a Charity will never get that high a number of individual giving. How do we know what is a healthy balance?

I feel pretty good about the numbers of donors balance that I have and would like more of both but the balance is okay (I think) but the amount of money from individuals I would definitely like to see higher.
