Rep Power: 0 | We do a member survey about every five years. We ask questions about the value of their membership, why they are a member, what do they like about our programming, what would they like to see us do in the future, etc.
Five years ago we paid a company to do it for us. This year we had volunteers recreate the survey with Survey Monkey and asked for responses from both members and non members. We also had printed copies that we sent to anyone who called to request one (and then had a volunteer enter the responses into Survey Monkey). We put a note in all our printed and electronic communication to please go to our website to take the survey and entered anyone who left their name in a drawing for free admission for 2 to one of our events. It worked fairly well. We have a volunteer analyzing the data now.
Word of caution: watch the length. We decided that since we only do it every five years, we could have a longer survey (about 50-60 questions) and we got quite a few comments about it being too long (though everyone still finished it; hopefully they'll all forget about the length of this one and will still be willing to fill out the next one).
