Rep Power: 4 | Beause you have no signature telling us where you are from I can't gauge how large an organization you are.
In researching this once I found that the small number of gifts we processed in a year (~5,000) made it cost prohibitive. The basic lockbox package all they give you is a file with an amount a name and maybe an ID. If you want to pay them to enter names, addresses, appeals, packages, and anything else you will need in your import file for the gifts then typically they charge a per keystroke fee. Then the cost was outrageous.
If all you get is a basic file with amounts and names you can't just import it so your data entry person still have to sit and do gift entry just in a spreadsheat instead of in batch. The only benefit you get is no more runs to the bank and you get the money more quickly because it happens first.
You should really meet with someone from your bank - let them know your expectations and see what it will cost. Sometimes getting the originals returned to you is an extra fee - sometimes an electronic scan of the documents is an extra fee. It's all in the numbers.
Larger organizations can do it because they basically consider it outsourcing their data enrtry and they get a good per keystroke rate based on volume.
