The Power of the Purse: Women's Philanthropy in Action
Session Level: Intermediate
Speaker:Nancy Alexander
Session Description: As women gain financial autonomy through education, paid work, and inheritance, the face of philanthropy is changing. Women's reasons for and ways of giving generally differ from men's. Women's interests and priorities — particularly when clearly articulated — can lead to new giving strategies and the creation of different types of philanthropic organizations. The upcoming multi-trillion-dollar wealth transfer will land funds largely in the hands of women and has the potential to effect powerful philanthropic innovations and social change. Starting with a brief overview of the history and social implications of women's philanthropy, this workshop will help nonprofit executives and development professionals understand how women give differently and how to tap into women's philanthropic motives, expanding both opportunities for donations and stronger relationships.
