As we prepare paper files for next year, we wanted to use Mail to print labels for each student, including the Homeroom #. Since this is not a choice in the fields to include - I checked out the Knowledgebase and found this solution -
BB184892 -
The current work-around is to create a query that restricts to one homeroom, select the User Defined Message as one of your fields - type in the Homeroomin the User Defined Message - print - repeat for each homeroom.
True - it works. But it's a waste of labels - since I have a max of 24 students per homeroom. And more importantly - it's a waste of staff time to change the query for each homeroom.
For the timebeing - I'm dumping my data into Excel and creating the labels from there. My issue is - I want to train more staff to use the Mail function of EE - and not be dependent on creating all these Excel docs that then become Word docs that continue to live on the network and get re-printed even after the students or addresses have changed.
If you have a minute - please visit the Knowledgebase - open solution BB184892 - and click on "add me to the list" - so we can all have the option of including Homeroom on labels.
Thanks!

I do not know EE at all so pardon me for possibly answering wrong. The mailnig labels in RE are also limited to only certain fields but i've been able to do them in Export using a simple word merge type directly to labels. There we have all of the fields available in export that can go on the labels. Does EE have such a thing?

Thanks for asking. Yes - EE have an Export function similar to RE. I'm wanting to accomplish this through mail for three reasons:
1 - I have end-users with very limited computer skills. I can teach them how to select the homerooms and then print the labels from Mail. To ask them to use Export to create an Excel doc that they then have to merge into Word is beyond them.
2 - For my users who can handle the Excel to Word merge - they end up saving the Export file and then using it again later - missing any changes made in the database. OR - they end up saving multiple files in multiple locations - cluttering up my network.
But my main reason for wanting this functionality - it's more efficient.
