Crytal Security

Anyone know of a way to show the windows user name of the user running the report?

I'm trying to make a report that is viewable by only one person in the office and it doesn't look like RE's Security module will limit custom reports by users. So I was thinking I could just suppress all fields on the report unless the one user with access were to run the report.

Not that I'm aware of (unless you are using Crystal Enterprise). In that case, you can use CurrentCEUserName and CurrentCEUserID.

It is possible to write your own functions for Crystal, so you might be able to write a custom function that will pull the current windows login. I don't know enough about this to tell you how to do it.

Section Security

Another scalable option would be to put a parameter prompt in that requires entry of a correct password for the sections to show. You could conditionally suppress every section unless the proper code is entered. This isn't a pretty way of doing it, but would get it done. This way, anyone could run the report from RE, but if they don't have the correct password, nothing will show up. You could even have a conditionally suppressed section appear if the incorrect password is entered that says something like, "You do not have the necessary permissions to view this report."
