Exporting Crystal Report into MS Word

Is there a way to export a Crystal Report into MS Word without having it create pages of text boxes?

Sure there is. Open the report and go to File --> Print --> Export. Then choose either "Word (Exact) Format" or Rich text (Exact) Format, and you should get a clean copy of it. If you've already tried each of these, then I'm not sure why you're getting pages of text boxes!! We use Crystal 8.5 and Office 2003 here.

All of the data is there correctly, but it is exactly the way it is in Crystal each field is a text box vs. characters in paragraph form. I am also on 8.5 and Word 2003. Do you think there may be a setting that needs changing?

No, there is not. Here's why. Word does not support multiple alignments per line. You can align the line Left, Right, or Center, but it affects the whole line. In order to have different alignments for each piece, you need to put them into text boxes. Tables won't work, because the separate pieces don't necessarily line up to easily create a table.

Sorry, Katherine, I misunderstood your question. I thought when you wrote "text boxes" you meant the "garbage" text that comes over sometimes into Word, as in little boxes!

Thank you both. Drew that does make sense.

For future readers: My solution was to build the report in MS Access and export it from Access into Word.

Word 2.0 Option

There is an option to export to Word 2.0 so you don't have to export to Word Exact. This allows for editing and our organization has been doing this since the upgrade to Crystal 8.5.

Solution Number: BB89576
Applicable Product(s): Raiser's Edge 7

Solution Title: Export options changed in Crystal Reports

1. Open Windows Explorer
2. Browse out to the RE7 folder
3. Rename the Crxf_wordw.dll file
4. Repeat for the Crxf_wordw.dll in the System32 folder

This allows Crystal Reports to select the word 2.0 format instead of word exact
