Donor Category Report

We are trying to run Donor Category Report and we would like to see how everyone is running it. The problem we have is that some of our donors would like to have their spouse names listed as well while others want only their names showing. So how would you address this issue?

Is there also a way to combine the spouses' gifts (hard credit) instead of listing them separately if they are both donors? We basically would like to know what the commonly accepted practice is.

Here's one idea ...

Perhaps you can have your RE administrator create a special addresses/salutation entitled "Donor Category Report".

FIll this field in all of your existing records through a series of global changes. (Hopefully you can.) Run a query afterward to check accuracy.

Operationalize completion of this step (entereing the DCR addressee/salutation) in your daily gift and data processing routine.

Most RE reports allow you to format them on Tab 8. On this tab, choose your individual addressee/salutation (the one you have created for the purpose of this report.)

Hope this helps!

If you're just talking about how to list: we have an addressee type called 'Publish As,' which is how people prefer to be listed. That's what we use in reports like this.

If you're talking about a larger issue of spouse soft credits vs. listing names and whatnot, that's a bigger topic...

We have an addressee type as "Recognition and Report". When entering a gift I make sure that is on each record as requested or our default (we default to First Last and Class or Male first and female first Last if a couple). The when we pull or Donor Category Report we just ask for that listing.
