Finding a Solicitor's UserID

Okay. How do you find the userid associated with a particular solicitor's record. I found how to look up the UserName from the UserID and vice versa, but I don't see how to get the UserID based on the solicitor's RERecordID. I need to add the primary solicitor to the Remindee list on an action, and it will only let me add them by their userid as far as I can tell.

Are you defining the primary solicitor on an action as the first solicitor listed on the action?

And what are you defining as the userid? Is this their Logon?

The Primary Solicitor is the Assigned Solicitor with the solicitor type = "Primary Staff Solicitor". There should be only one, but I am only taking the first one.

The userid is the field from the Users table and is required to set up reminders. The Logon would be the User Name, not the User ID.

Isn't RECORDS.ID linked to USERS.CONSTITUENTID? Is that what you're after?

Yes, but I need to know how to do it in VBA (which is why it's in the VBA/API forum). If it were SQL, then it wouldn't be a problem.

Sorry about that. I just realized that it was in VBA/SQL forum. I'll just shut up now.

Drew,

The problem is that there is no reference to the user name or user id from the solicitor object (CAssignedSolicitor2). What I imagine there is, and I have

You can do it the other way around. If you have the username you can get their constituent id. This is found on the GetUserPref method of REServices. Select the field USER_fld_CONSTITUENTID but even then you are restricted to the current user. If you were to add a reference to the security objects you could load the user object for that user and get their constituent id.

Unfortunately, that won't work for my purposes. I'm trying to add an action based on certain gifts being created. The solicitors won't be entering the gifts, and there's no reason to notify the gift entry person.

Is there some kind of SQL object that I can create using the REApplication.SessionContext?

Try using the CreateDisconnectedADORecordset method. See my blog for an example: RE-Decoded » Blog Archive » Sometimes the API is just not enough

Thanks David. I was finally able to get it to work using this approach. I was not able to get the Windows authentication to work. It kept saying that the user '(null)' was not associated with a trusted connection. At least it's working.
